Being Downtown Nov 11th 2011

November 11 – Pastor Matthew
(a weekly e-letter to Sunnyside Wesleyan Church’s Downtown Congregation)
“In him we live and move and have our being.”
As my second week comes to an end we are settling in. Looking back and ahead here are five things that stick out.
1. I was excited to find out that there is a direct bus route (86) close to my house, that takes me downtown . I had my first trip this week and did not even get lost. Now I am just looking for good coffee shops and places to eat downtown, so send your suggestions in.
2. My house still has not sold and we could use your prayers for this to happen. We are trusting God, and my kids keep praying “thank you Jesus our house sold.” So we are depending on God, to provide for us in this area of our life.
3.God’s Faithfulness – I had my first Sunnyside board meeting this week, which helped give me more of a glimpse of how God is working through the Sunnyside community. This is fitting as Sunnyside celebrates its 90th anniversary this weekend (note the announcements below), and God’s faithfulness in our lives.
4. Getting ready to have the church over Sunday. – We are having an open house this Sunday night @ 6 pm – until you go home. We want to hear your stories, and get to know each other better. Our new addiction over the last weeks is seasoning on popcorn, so we will be popping some popcorn. Send us a note if you are coming.
5. Enjoying Netflix – We decided to try Netflix this month. There is enough there for now to watch, we just have the disagreeing on what we should watch.
In my scripture reading this week, I am reading through John. I have been reminded about Jesus as the source of life and my dependence upon him. As we look to the next chapter in Sunnyside’s history, may we not lose sight of the spring of life. See you this weekend as we celebrate 90 years of God working through the Sunnyside community.
