Looking Forward to Sunday

I am late getting LFTS out this week. It is the old dynamic of getting back from two weeks away, and then having to dig out from under the pile of stuff that has accumulated. But I must say that the two weeks away at school were great. I learned a lot and was reminded of more. My brain was stretched and I had a lot of fun too. I took a theology course and a preaching course. I am hoping the results may show up in the weeks and months to come.

I want to ask you a question and get your feedback on it. The board is considering whether or not we should go ahead with a solar project on the roof of the church building. Here is the story.
We have been preapproved to sell electricity Ontario Hydro at 80.5 cents per kwh on 20 year guaranteed contract. That is the highest rate that has been given. (On a project like ours we would earn about $11000 per year) They have since dropped the rate significantly. In order to install the project on the roof, we would need to re-shingle the roof. The cost to do the solar project and the shingling is between $77000 – $82000 depending on technical specification we decide on.
We will have to borrow the money to pay for this. Depending on the interest rate that we are able to secure and the final number of the project the repayment time will be 8.5 -10 years. (That includes a new roof that we are going to need in 3-5 years anyways) That would mean that we would be making about $11000 a year after that, which could be invested in the ministry of the church and/or missions.
The above are the details. What I am interested in is what do you think about this project? Do you like the idea. Do you not like to the idea? I (and the board) would like to hear if you have opinions about this. Email me at brent.russett@gmail.com

The Christian life in Canada has become personal and individual. It is easy to lose sight of the fact that God has a vision for society. Lesley Newbigin in his book “Foolishness to the Greeks” says, The public world of government, of education, of buying and selling, of ruling and serving, was to be shaped so far as possible by the vision of an order in which love is expressed through the relations proper to a hierarchical order of which God, who is the source of all love, is the head.
We will not see this entirely until Jesus comes back, but it is the right thing to do to work towards it now.
Looking Forward to Sunday
This Sunday I am speaking about “Encountering the Love of God” at the Grosvenor Site. The downtown site encountered the love of God last week. This week Pastor Matthew is speaking on “Encountering a Good God”.
