(a weekly e-letter to sunnyside wesleyan church’s downtown congregation)

“In him we live and move and have our being.”

I am excited about life at Sunnyside.  This winter semester we have five small group leaders from the DT site who are serving by leading a small group.  As well across the Sunnyside community there are a number of small groups that you could be involved with.

I am also excited about the opportunity we have through the Sunnyside downtown community to share the gospel.  God has brought us together and is sending us out.  Sunday we will be singing a song called “Hope of the Nations.”  As the title implies, it speaks about how Jesus is the hope of the nations.  For such a time as this God has brought us together to proclaim and live out this message.

This Sunday we will be reflecting on Encountering a Wise God.  Who could we invite this Sunday or in the Sundays ahead to come and see this hope of the nations.  I see a day when we are not roping off the top section of the auditorium.  I see a day when the auditorium is 70% full of people.

Take a look at a couple of seats over.  There is your neighbor who has brought another neighbor.  Look on the left of side you, there is so and so who sits beside you in class.  Look down on the right your co-worker, sneaked in.  Can you see the person who has just taken their first step in trusting Jesus?  You are not even sure if you know the names of all those new faces serving on the music team.  What was the ushers name again, he has been coming for five months now.  Then there was the new faces of the greeters, smiling when I came.

After the service, look at the people some laughing, a few praying with another, many catching up.  A whole new group of people you don’t even know who are faithfully serving by cleaning up.   Can you see it, I can.
